05 May. The local and regional media in Mangalore/ Karnataka has always been very supportive of our little venture of Radio SARANG 107.8FM. Ever since it was established, every newspaper of Karnataka, and Mangalore in particular, has shown greatest support.

When Radio SARANG bagged an award at the National level for promoting local culture, the local media showed the greatest appreciation. Every newspaper, web site and television channel went out of its way to acknowledge and publicize the little achievement.
Regional TV channels like TV9, News9, and Janasri TV made special news features on our radio. So much so, I started getting calls from Bangalore, Bhatkal, Madikeri, Mumbai and elsewhere, appreciating and congratulating Radio SARANG and my staff for this achievement!

What more! Even national broadcaster Doordarshan and ANI which feeds Reuters made a trip to Radio SARANG!
New Phone-in Programme4 May 2012. It's all the way - our little community. This time RJ Gangadhar alias Autorickshaw Gangadhar! A local young auto driver Gangadhar liked listening to Community Radio SARANG 107.8FM. That was roughly a year ago. After a few months, he gathered courage and called us. He said, he wanted to see us. He came. He saw. He conquered! We suggested, why not he present some of his favourite radio programmes.A hesitant Gangadhar started. We would give him a list of programmes to present and leave him to his own in the studio! Gangadhar would come up with some excellent presentation - in the language he could speak - friendly, informal! Ever since, he has been our regular volunteer! From an unknown auto rickshaw driver to RJ Gangadhar! In March, Gangadhar suggested that he wanted to host a daily live phone-in show! And we said "yes", and there he is! Since 15 March 2012, RJ Gangadhar has been hosting a daily show at 4pm "Manasina Maathu" - Spontaneous Chat! (Words of the Heart, literally). Response? Well, it's difficult to say about the programme! There are so many calls from every nook and cranny of Mangalore and vicinity that we can't cope with those callers! You won't believe, one day, he did not play any programme, just went on recieving calls! One full hour!! [I had to gently remind him that this is a radio show, and he had to host programmes, and in between receive calls, too!] RJ Gangadhar say, now people in his auto recognise him so easily and love him! The show continues. So does RJ Gangadhar. So does our community! You have callers from all walks of life - mostly farmers, auto rickshaw wallahs, cooli workers, beedi rollers, home-makers, senior citizens, etc... It is estimated that there are over 2,00,000 listeners to Community Radio sARANG 107.8FM, in Mangalore city and outskirts. Last Updated ( Saturday, 05 May 2012 04:54 ) About05 May.
